“My desire is for the images to become your most valued treasure.”
“As a photographer, I capture meaningful moments and turn them into forever memories”
Since I was a young girl, I have felt compelled to document my surroundings. When I was three or four years old, you could find me with a toy camera “capturing” moments in my life. My focus turned to film portraiture when I was in high school. I can still remember the long hours spent in my school’s darkroom, developing roll after roll of portraits I took, trying to capture the essence of whoever I encountered–even strangers. From very early on, I was intent on documenting people and their emotions.
The depth and range of the human spirit fascinated me then, as it does now. I loved how so much feeling could be conveyed in a nuanced look in someone’s eyes or a small gesture. With that in mind, I worked constantly to perfect my craft. I wanted to capture those emotions with as much clarity and meaning as possible.
I am supported in my art by my lifelong study of the craft of photography. While many people express their concerns about not looking their best during this time, I assure them, and you, that capturing flattering images is all part of the work of a skilled photographer. Lighting, composition, angles, camera settings—I make sure all of these elements are joined harmoniously to capture my clients’ beauty. There is nothing more beautiful than bringing a new life into the world.
I photograph in black and white because it crystallizes the emotion in each image. I also shoot entirely with natural light, without flash, to be as unobtrusive as possible. At an event where there are often less-than-favorable lighting conditions, working in black and white allows the eye to focus on what is most important—the emotion and wonder surrounding the labor and delivery of a new life into the world.
My birth photography business came into being in 2011, when a friend asked if I would photograph the arrival of her child. The power of that experience drew me into birth photography full time. In my eyes, no other life event simultaneously combines so much love, intimacy, celebration, and beauty. I have photographed in all settings, from hospitals to the home. Each experience is unique, and each one is uniquely beautiful.
I feel it is an enormous privilege to witness and document the birth of a new person, and being able to share in this moment is something I feel very passionate about. You can learn more about my methodology on my FAQ page. Please peruse my portfolio to experience my style for yourself.
What My Clients
Have to Say
“Jennifer was our birth photographer, and apart from her encouraging presence, we barely even knew she was there! She caught the most amazing moments of birth in such a beautiful way–ones that we either didn’t realize had happened, or wouldn’t have remembered. We are very thankful for the memories we now have to cherish, and for getting to know Jennifer through this experience. She truly is gifted with amazing talent.”
JOEL & STACY

Jennifer has given us a memory for a lifetime! We couldn’t be more happy with our images and birth video.”
JEFF & KARI
